A WordPress site's main feed lives at /feed/. That gives you every new post. But you need a PDF of one category, a single tag, one author's work, or a search result. That takes a more precise URL. Here is every standard pattern, with the steps to find the slugs you need, so you can build the exact feed URL and convert it.
The Main Feed and Its Atom Version
WordPress generates two default feeds for the whole site. The RSS 2.0 feed sits at /feed/. The Atom version sits at /feed/atom/. Both work with the RSS to PDF tool. That tool accepts public http or https feed URLs up to a certain size. It renders the most recent items. Each item shows the title, author, date, and a plain-text summary. HTML is stripped. The tool does not reproduce the site's layout or images.
Category Feeds
Build a Category Feed URL
A category feed pulls posts from one category only. The pattern is:
- /category/SLUG/feed/
Replace SLUG with the category's URL slug. If the category is "Recipes" and its slug is recipes, the feed URL is /category/recipes/feed/. The Atom version is /category/recipes/feed/atom/.
Finding the Category Slug
Go to your WordPress admin dashboard. Navigate to Posts > Categories. The slug is shown in the list. If the category's URL on your site is /category/recipes/, the slug is recipes.
Tag Feeds
Build a Tag Feed URL
A tag feed works the same way. The pattern is:
- /tag/SLUG/feed/
Replace SLUG with the tag's slug. If the tag is "Gluten-Free" with slug gluten-free, the feed URL is /tag/gluten-free/feed/. Tags and categories are different taxonomies. Use a tag feed when you want posts with a specific label, not a whole category.
Finding the Tag Slug
In your WordPress admin, go to Posts > Tags. The slug is listed next to each tag. If a tag's URL on your site is /tag/gluten-free/, the slug is gluten-free.
Author Feeds
Build an Author Feed URL
An author feed shows only posts by one author. The pattern is:
- /author/USERNAME/feed/
Replace USERNAME with the author's WordPress username. If the username is jane-doe, the feed URL is /author/jane-doe/feed/. Use this to create a PDF of a specific contributor's work.
Finding the Username
Find the username in the WordPress admin under Users > All Users. The username is the login name, not the display name. If the author's profile page URL is /author/jane-doe/, the username is jane-doe.
Search Feeds
A search feed returns posts that match a search term. The pattern uses a query string:
- /?s=TERM&feed=rss2
Replace TERM with your search term, URL-encoded if it contains spaces or special characters. To search for "vegan pizza", use /?s=vegan+pizza&feed=rss2. This feed returns only posts that contain the term in the title, content, or tags, depending on the site's search configuration.
Comments Feed and Sites Without Pretty Permalinks
For a feed of all comments on a site, use the comments feed pattern:
- /comments/feed/
This feed lists recent comments, not posts. It is useful for monitoring discussion activity.
Sites that do not use "pretty permalinks" have query-based URLs. For those, the main feed pattern is /?feed=rss2. This also works for category, tag, and author feeds if the site uses query-based URLs instead of path-based ones.
Using These Feeds with the RSS to PDF Tool
Convert a Feed to PDF
Take the feed URL you built and paste it into the RSS to PDF tool at rss2pdf.com. The tool accepts any public RSS or Atom feed URL up to a certain size. It generates a PDF containing the most recent items. Each item includes the title, author, date, and a plain-text summary with HTML stripped. The tool does not keep the site's layout or include images.
Here are the steps:
- Copy the exact feed URL you built.
- Open rss2pdf.com in your browser.
- Paste the feed URL into the text box.
- Click the convert button.
- Download the resulting PDF.
WordPress feeds display a few items by default. Change this in Settings > Reading under "Syndication feeds show the most recent." The RSS to PDF tool uses whatever the feed provides. If the site's "For each post in a feed, include" setting is set to full text, the PDF gets full text. If it is set to excerpt, the PDF gets excerpts.
